The vision statement of WKW Precision Engineering as a "Competitive, Reliable, Quality Service" is now even more enhanced following a successful audit of the companies ISO 9001:2015 Accreditation on the 22nd August 2018. The Quality Manager, Chris Steele was happy to report that the company successfully passed the audit with NO non conformities and only two opportunities for improvements identified, both of which have now been fully implemented.

The Auditor reported that WKW Precision Engineering Co.Ltd. demonstrated throughout the audit process that the company does and continues to effectively manage the Quality Management System in conjunction with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 procedures and the companies own internal procedures. The Auditor further commented that the system is continually being reviewed through the management process, along with the Internal Audits and continually monitoring the processes and trend analysis.

The surveillance visit covered the requirements as stipulated in ISO9001:2015, along with the additional areas of Enquiries/Quotations, Sales, Production, Storage, Goods Inwards/Despatch, Purchasing & Calibration.

With WKW Precision Engineering's quality control and dedication of it's committed staff, the company can look forward to continued growth.

Quality Accreditation

"Manufacturing Output is up this Month". "Experts predict Manufacturing Output to be down next Month". How many times have we heard or read these headlines. At times you begin to wonder who is right and who is wrong.

One thing for certain is that every day will begin and every day will end and it's what we do in that period of the manufacturing day that will determine if we are doing it right or wrong. "Positive Mental Attitude" is the key to driving ahead with plans where one can expect to make progress or fall behind. For the saying is clear "Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail"

At WKW Precision Engineering, that plan is carried out by a dedicated Team and with the recent awarding of the Fit 4 Nuclear Status, the Company has now updated to the ISO2001:2015 Accreditation.

These qualifications are there to ensure that the Customer has the confidence to do business and be assured that his enquiry will be dealt with in a Professional manner. It also creates pride in the work by Employee's that their skills are recognised and Accredited together with being "Made in Yorkshire" and "Made in Britain".

WKW Precision Engineering are now exporting to counties such as the U.S.A. Singapore, India, Norway, Poland & Nigeria. The Company has a firm commitment to Continuous Improvement and will continue to plan for the future ahead.

WKW Precision Engineering Co. Ltd, after 16 months of preparations, audits and quality checks, are proud to announce that the Company has been approved and certified with the Fit4 Nuclear programme. Even though we now have F4N accreditation, the action plan is ongoing that will take the Company to new markets in the Nuclear Industry and as a result, we now have a clear vision for the future and a strategy that will deliver the improvements and performance required to continue as one of Yorkshire's finest and the UK'S leading precision engineering company.

WKW Launches 'Open Shop' to Improve Internal Processes

Over the past 7 years, WKW has embarked on a challenge, to be one of a growing number of companies in the ‘Fit for Nuclear' program. The program has allowed WKW to look at its internal processes, structure and note where they could improve . Since then the company has created a new software program - ‘Open Shop’, which has created an attitude of continuous improvement in the business.

WKW Precision Engineering are sub-contract manufacturers of high tolerance precision engineered components. Supported by the Nuclear AMRC, the ‘Fit for Nuclear’ program process used a nuclear checklist to guide and create a plan of action. This allowed the firm to gain the confidence to network with others within the sustainable energy market.

The team decided to invest in the ‘Fit for Nuclear’ program to embark on the mission of being one of Yorkshire's top engineering companies. Elevating themselves to the best remains a continuous goal. The vision, creating a ‘competitive, reliable and quality service’ for all their clients.

There seemed to be a defining factor though. To sustain the quality that made WKW the competitive service the sacrifice, reliability. As a customer you were almost certain to receive exactly what you wanted but delays seemed to run tandem. With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, WKW had an opportunity to look at the efficiency of its service. The desired outcome was to improve these areas.

How could WKW maintain the quality of its service? How could it improve on delivery? Could it use this time to its advantage! How could it improve its own communication within its departments?

From this opportunity and reduction in the market demand was born ‘Open Shop'. Using their MRP system, WKW came up with the concept of a live dashboard. This allowed all departments of the business to see what was happening from production through to delivery. Some of the many features the dashboard incorporated as well were production per department, quality and employee efficiency.

WKW had the vision that they could be available 24/7 to all their clients, to see where the order was, if it was in progress and when it would be ready. Helping deal with their enquiries faster and more efficiently.

Open Shop is now an important part of the driving force at WKW. Used daily, it is there to maintain delivery and keep the workforce moving in the right direction. It works for them and with effective management it works for their clients.

The 40+ Year History of a Halifax Manufacturer

WKW Precision Engineering Limited was founded by Mr. Richard Wyatt in 1981, with a vision to supply high-quality engineered parts to the rapidly growing machine tool industry in the Calder Valley and beyond.Specialising in manual machining, gear cutting, leadscrews, and splines and operating out of a former mill WKW quickly gained a reputation for excellence.

Operating out of a former mill on Garden Street North, WKW planted its roots. In 1986, Mr. Wyatt was joined by his son, Mr. Adrian Wyatt, who became Operations Director. Adrian introduced fresh ideas, and under his additional leadership, WKW embraced new technologies, purchasing one of its first CNC machines, which sparked innovation and growth.

Today, WKW offers a comprehensive range of services, including CNC turning, milling, EDM, grinding, gear cutting, full inspection services.

With a wide range of machinery that includes C.N.C. Turning Machines with bar feeding capabilities for large batch production at competitive prices and C.N.C. Milling Machines with a maximum stroke of 1020 mm in the x-axis including a fourth axis capability. Machining of splines both internal and external to British Standards can be done with a choice of surface grinding, centre less grinding and external as well as internal cylindrical grinding.

Services also available include gear grinding (both spur and helical), spiral bevels, worms and worm wheels, spark eroding, the machining of new and re-worked cams and the broaching of squares, splines and hexagons.
